PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE AUTO-START PROGRAM FOR YOUR COMPUTER IS ACTIVATED OF THE CD WILL NOT START!

 If you do not have the AUTO-START selected, follow the following instructions. (No, I am not crazy, if you are reading this, you have of course figured this one out. This is for your FRIENDS who may have found the problem. I am making an attempt to help you look SMART!! :)

System Requirements:

1. A computer
2. The computer must be running Windows 95 or 98
3. You must have a CD-ROM player in the computer.
4. You must turn the computer ON and WAIT until it fully loads your WINDOWS program. Then and only then do you install the CD.  :)

Setting the AUTO START program from Windows 95 or 98

1. Click Start 
2. Click Settings. 
3. Click the Control Panel. 
4. Double-click System.  
5. Click Device Manager. 
6. Make sure the circle next to "view devices by type" is selected.  
7.
Click the plus sign next to CD-ROM. 
8. RIGHT-CLICK (with your mouse) the CD-ROM. 
9. Click Properties.  
10.Click the Settings tab.  
11. Click inside the Auto insert notification check box.  A check mark should appear. 
12. CLICK OK. 
13. Again OK at the next window. You should now be back at the Control Panel screen.
14. Click FILE, CLOSE And AWAY YOU GO!!!!
15. Shut down your computer and reboot. 
16. After it starts up again, wait until the DESKTOP is completely finished loading... then insert your CD. It should then start. If it does not start... please do NOT call me.  :)  Just kidding!

Notes

*  This setting applies to all CDs, including games, multimedia, and audio CDs.

*  To prevent CDs from playing automatically, click to clear the Auto insert notification check box. You can also press the SHIFT key while inserting a CD to stop it from playing automatically.

Start up
Once the I s a Project CD-ROM starts up you will be brought automatically to the:

Main Menu
Once the program opens, you will see the MAIN PAGE where the program lists its options. You will begin to explore the following offerings once the MAIN PAGE of the ISA Project appears.

Alternative start up method using Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer)

Click on the START button
Click on Programs
Find WINDOWS Explorer
Click on the Icon Windows Explorer (a folder with a magnifying glass). Scroll down in the LEFT WINDOW until you see the ICON (picture) of a CD-ROM... Click it.

When the directories and files on the CD show up in the window, find the file which says "DEFAULT" and click it.

The CD will start automatically.

CD-LAYOUT

The CD is currently divided into several sections.

1. The SPLASH PAGE is the first page you see when the CD opens up. On that screen there are several buttons which can be "CLICKED" to navigate through most of the content of the CD.

2. LINKS in the Intro page gives you basic access to resources on the CD. Links in the left panel will help guide you to further information relating to the content of the CD showing on the MAIN PAGE.

3. MAIN PAGE is the larger of the screens you will find on the SPLASH page. The MAIN PAGE offers the content of the search you made via the SEARCH ENGINE command or by CLICKING on the LINKS. The vertical bar separating the MAIN PAGE and the CONTENT PANEL can be moved, left or right to enlarge the MAIN PAGE. The next version of the CD will have a better and bigger screen presentation format.

4. The CONTENT PANEL is the vertical panel on the left. That panel has "HOT LINKS", when "CLICKED", will take you to other resources.

5. WINDOWS EXPLORER is another way to see what is on the CD. After opening the CD, you can close it and open the WINDOWS EXPLORER. You then select the CD. After clicking on the CD, you will be able to browse through the 'back stage' contents of the CD-ROM. You will find, for example, every article listed on the CD-ROM, by title, after opening the GENERAL folder. 

6. FILES can be moved from the CD to floppy disks through this method and transferred to other computers that do not have a CD-ROM..

Technical Details  


CD Format
is designed as a website. If you are familiar with using the internet browsers, you will find the CD easy to use.

Internet use - on-line (some hyperlinks are active only when connected to the Internet).

Off-line use - the entire CD is designed to be used without internet connections.

Hyperlink issues - some links will appear as 'broken' or 'not accessible'. When this happens, you will know that that particular link is designed for additional information while online ONLY.

Active links - all links are designes for single click only.

Inactive or Dead Links are present on the CD. The reason for this is that some Internet sites will have closed since the production of the CD.

Known Problems - sometimes there are problems with the multimedia program. These reports are associated with two basic issues. 
1) A multimedia player, other than Microsoft® Multimedia Player® (registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation) is used to listen to the tapes or view the video tape.
2) When there have been adjustments to your sound system in your computer. Some using 'Speech-to-text' programs must adjust their sound and record levels to accommodate their program. Sometimes, these values must be changed back to the 'default' settings for the AV programs to work.

Some books on the CD will require you to read them through Adobe Reader (provided on the CD).

Browsers

Internet Explorer 4.0 and 5.0

Netscape - is not included in this CD. However, you may be able to use it with your version of Navigator. We hope to include Navigator in the future.

Video Presentation
Use the Multimedia Player provided in the 'PROGRAMS' file on the CD for best results.

You can view all files, by name, by going into the CD through WINDOWS EXPLORER (NOT Internet Explorer) and selecting the CD. When it opens, you will see a directory called 'Programs'. It is in this directory you will find; Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Multimedia and Adobe Reader. Click on that directory and the files will be listed for you.

To install the programs, you must DOUBLE CLICK on the program icon itself.
